“My parents moved to Baton Rouge in the early 1930s from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and they fell in love with the people and lifestyle offered to them. My mother used to say you could not drag her out of Baton Rouge with wild horses. My father’s advice was always that ‘you grow best were you are planted.’ So like my parents, you cannot drag me out of Baton Rouge. It is my home. Upon graduation from LSU, I had the opportunity to move to Wall Street in New York and begin my career, and again my father’s advice was to go ahead and move to New York but remember his advice that ‘you grow best where you are planted.’ After three months of living in a hotel, riding subways and eating northern cuisine, I concluded that Dad was right, so I high-tailed it back to the Red Stick.”

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: After graduating LSU in 1976, Anderson began his career at Merrill Lynch & Co. In 1982 he joined Howard Weil & Co. as branch office manager. In 1984, he opened his own firm, B.F. Anderson Investment Securities, acquired in 1988 by Dorsey & Co. Inc. in New Orleans. In 1995, he opened B.F. Anderson & Co., specializing in growth stocks and a “focused” approach to portfolio management. His daughter, Amy Anderson, and long-time associate Matt Spencer handle the firm’s daily operations and training for portfolio manager positions.
